Latvia electricity prices today

Latvia is a single Nord Pool bidding zone, LV. The day-ahead auction sets a price for every quarter-hour of the delivery day, and that is the energy price an exchange-tied contract follows.

What moves the Latvian price

LV sits in the Baltic system with Lithuania and Estonia. When Estlink to Finland and NordBalt to Sweden are unconstrained, Baltic prices often track the Nordic system. When those links are congested, or wind is low and thermal plants set the price, Latvia can separate and spike.

Daugava hydropower and a growing wind fleet shape local supply. The page for zone LV shows the auction result itself, not a story about why a particular hour moved.

When the hour matters on a Latvian bill

An exchange-tied contract (biržas cena) charges the energy part by the hour. A fixed energy rate does not. Distribution, the supplier margin and VAT sit on top either way, and they often do not fall just because the auction does.

Laundry, a dishwasher, an EV charge or a hot-water tank are the loads worth moving. NordShifts marks the cheapest three-hour block so a cycle has somewhere to land.

Questions

+Where do these Latvia electricity prices come from?

They are the Nord Pool day-ahead auction results for bidding zone LV, in euro per megawatt-hour.

+Is this the price on my Latvian bill?

No. The bill adds the seller's margin, the distribution tariff and VAT. Only the energy part of an exchange-tied contract follows this price.

+When is tomorrow's Latvian price published?

Usually in the early afternoon CET, after the day-ahead auction clears. Until then the tomorrow page says the auction is not in yet.
